We are currently seeking a Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Training Division in all classroom and practical-based instruction of 1 "A" School and 13 "C" Schools. Support all four Schoolhouses under the Training Division
  • Perform all methods of instruction performed at MLEA, to include (but not limited to) classroom instruction, practical performance facilitation, and defensive tactics and dynamic law enforcement matroom training and facilitation, as directed by the Training Officer, MLEA
  • Qualify instructors using guidance set forth in the MLEA Instruction (MLEAINST 1500.1(series)), MLE Academy Instructor Qualification Process. Ensure qualification within six months of hire or assignment/reassignment to a particular Schoolhouse. Following initial qualification, continue to qualify instructors in specialization qualification Job Qualification Requirements as directed as an enclosure to MLE Academy Instructor Qualification Process
  • Maintain instructor qualifications by meeting Coast Guard, MLEA and FLETC mandated training requirements, including (but not limited to) monthly on-site Professional Development Training hosted by MLEA and required of all instructors
  • Adhere to MLEA and FLETC requirements for Instructor Evaluation, including formal assessment of the instructor's competency during at least one classroom evaluation and one practical facilitation evaluation performed by an MLEA representative annually. The instructor will be assessed using the Coast Guard Instructor Feedback Form (IFF) for both evaluations. No prior warning is required on behalf of the MLEA to conduct an IFF. Should the Contractor receive a score below "3" or "meets standard" on the IFF, they will be notified of the delinquencies and will be reevaluated without warning in another module of instruction within the month. Any further IFFs below "3" or "meets standard" will result in the Contracting Officer's Representative notifying the Contract Specialist of the issue
  • Follow the instructional schedule set forth by the School Chief
  • Adhere to the MLEA Instructor Uniform as set forth in the MLEA ORGMAN. The Coast Guard is not responsible for furnishing instructor materials, including Instructor uniforms, on behalf of the Contractor
  • Act as a role-player when required. Role Players are vital to realistic, dynamic, and high-fidelity training. Role Players must be trained and evaluated on a regular basis to ensure safe and effective training sessions are provided for all involved. The Contractor shall qualify as a Role Player by reviewing all current Role Player Guides provided, demonstrate proper donning of Role Player safety gear, observing at least two mat room and platform scenarios prior to serving as a Role Player with students, and Complete the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy Contracted Role Player Qualification Sheet. The Contractor shall maintain compliance with Role Player direction as set forth in the MLEA ORGMAN
  • All other duties as assigned
     

Requirements:

  • Must meet the physical fitness standards semiannually set in the Boarding Officer/Boarding Team Member Law Enforcement Competency Qualification Instruction. Requires physical exertion by teaching defensive tactics and allowing the students practice their techniques on the instructor in protective gear
  • Three (3) years Maritime Law Enforcement Training experience

    • Anti-Terrorism
  • Graduate of the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy's Boarding Officer Course and previous experienced as a qualified CG Boarding Officer is strongly desired
  • Effectively facilitate mock boarding scenarios including the physical requirement to climb ladders and move through small compartments
  • Possess a favorable, current National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation
